User interface design for information appliances.

Microsoft's Home of the Future is not an ordinary house. It's a smart home, fully connected and fully digital, and it is designed to make the lives of its imaginary inhabitants easier and more fun. In short, it's the place where Microsoft sketches their vision of the future.
Surface designed and produced complete user interfaces for all of the Microsoft-built smart devices within the Home. These included a wide-screen television, wall-mounted control panels, laptop web-pads, a refrigerator/kitchen computer, a web site for accessing the Home from the office, and even a UI for a "traditional" desktop PC.
Working closely with the prototyping team, Surface was an integral part of making the Home a reality.
My part in the project was building the television interface, where a family could easily access a broad range of entertainment devices and content, as well as check the status of devices and information throughout the home.
As with other devices, the television UI had to mirror a consistent theme while at the same time taking into account the benefits and drawbacks of viewing and interacting with information on a large television screen from across the room.
